I'm not able to use the elm on the MS-CAN is there something I need to do before this will work?

There's a tab on elm327 setup, "setup elm327 for MS-CAN bus"

I didn't need to touch that - I wired it up with some pointers from Brendan and away it went.

I'm no expert at this, but I'm guessing that it's a wiring/switch issue? Just on the basis that you need to switch it between MS-CAN and HS-CAN...so if one is not working...it could be the wiring.

Someone that knows what they are doing needs to verify this, but I followed these instructions to run PuTTY before plugging it into the car (starting from the point that it's plugged into Windows and is recognised as a device).

I really don't know whether this in required, but I did it anyway:

Run PuTTy program

Plug ELM327 into PC - the RED light will come on

Select Serial
Select your COM port (COM3)
Set Bit rate 38400
Click OPEN

Black CMD window will open
Type the following commands into the window, one at a time and hit enter:

> atpp2asv38
> atpp2aon
> atpp2csv81
> atpp2con
> atpp2dsv04
> atpp2don

Each time you hit enter PuTTY should respond with '>K'

As you type two leds will flash on the ELM 327

I got >K followed by the command that I had typed - I had to overwrite and repeat some of the commands twice before i got each one to confirm '>K' (this bit is really strange)

my switch i have done for someone, its in tape to test before refitting screws

can this software run on tablets or is it just laptops?
That's an elegant solution - now why didn't I think of doing that!?

You need a full PC operating system for ELMConfig to run - and a USB port helps

. I'm really only familiar with iPads...and they're a definite no.

I changed mine to "Garys Focus RS"... interestingly enough, I had a pairing request from some random whilst doing 70mph on the M25 the other evening!

I had a look at the new software this afternoon - and changed the bluetooth name. Brilliant!

Now it's not confused with the other Ford Audio device (a Fiesta).

Having problems getting the drivers working. Its windows 8 and the software installed no problem but when I connect it up there is nothing to select in the port option therefore I cannot get it to open.

I have downloaded numerous drivers but nothing seems to work.
Try setting it to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode and run as an administrator

Hi just bought an RS mk2 with both lux packs and bluetooth, phone links up and can make calls but wont stream music. The dealer has told me to go back to them but they are 60+ miles away.Is there any where that sells this update, just that im not very technically minded and would rather buy it than mess it up,cheers any help would be appreciated.

I don't get what you are enabling with the BT streaming... Mine has always streamed music from my phone to the head unit via blue tooth..

Or am I missing something here...?
It's more often the retro fitted modules that need this enabling I believe, early RS's didn't have BT streaming enabled but later ones did.

Also people need to be clear what they have in their vehicles as standard fit & what has been changed.

As I have said before my July 09 build I spec'd as lux2; BT/USB but it did not come with the BT streaming enabled, that was a change a couple of months later & a colleagues mgmt ST car & kuga had this so I complained internally & also highlighted a potential improvement in the software (e.g why bother loading fax numbers) and got approval for the supplier (Bosch) resident engineers to upgrade my software (head unit by DVD & audio via USB stick). Neither did they use IDS to get BT Streaming enabled in the voice module, yet we now know that is required for some cars (why is still an unknown).
