I am still investigating what the reason is why some work and some not. I replaced a small screen display cluster, where the shift light works at start but nothing at 6500 rpm, with a big screens display. The one used in cars with a big screen navi. Still no shift up.

Now i am looking if there is a difference with cars which has keyless entry or not. An cars which has the bluetooth connector (with bluetooth module) or cars without this connector.

Perhaps there is a signal comming from the GEM which isn't there when some wires aren't available.

Here are some of the ones I can remember doing and tried to get the shift light to come on at 6500rpm (if it helps) .

May 2009 Lux Pack 2 , BT/USB

May 2009 Lux Pack 1 , BT/USB

June 2010 Lux Pack 2 , BT/USB

Sept 2010 RS500 , no keyless (green light on all the time)

Clive, can you explain me please if the keyless entry was an option in the UK or was it in a lux pack?

The car where it didn't work, didn't have the bluetooth connector and did have keyless entry.

Strange thing i also noticed, it seems keyless entry and double lock with alarm wasn't possible.

RS500, in the UK they all had full options, so included BT and navi? green light on all the time..do you mean, it goes on at start and didn't go out?

The keyless entry was an option with both Lux Pack 1 and Lux Pack 2 (but not on vehicles with neither Lux Pack) , it wasn't available at all with the RS500 .

I've also found that most 2009 cars will display shift light correctly and most 2010's don't display it correctly!

Strange though as some do work and others don't. Doesn't seem to matter whether it's Lux 1 or 2!

if this helps a little.....

on the st i had the shift light came on as standard iirc aprox 6000-6500 rpm but after a remap my DS it came on at 4500ish when cold and then moved up to 5750ish when warm which was allegidly when the power started to drop on that map, so in conclusion i would guess this could be set in the mapping as you say they never work on MT cars and not on mine which is JWR mapped?

just a thought

Hmm, was yours a pre facelight ST?

I had a Bluefin on my Facelift ST which enabled the shift light, but didn't move according to engine temp etc.

I think it's something to do with the mapping, it has to be. It's just to much of a coincidence that the Mountune cars don't display it properly!

I do believe like you say that it could be set by Tuners, but it's just a case of finding it!

I imagine when it's activated on ELM Config, we are just unlocking the standard Ford settings within the map, which are clearly inconsistent.

yes mine was pre f/l and its well known that Dreamscience know more about parts of the mapping than many (if not all) other mappers when it comes to ST's at least. i guess your best source of info on this would be collins / KMS etc. as they actually directly map not sell other peoples maps?

so guess your right what the config does is enable the light to work and the map controls when the light is actually activated etc

The problem which the "shift light" on the RS is that it isn't a shift light. It's the ECO Shift up light as used in the other derivatives in the range. It was never intended to be used a shift light but for some reason it does work that way.

In the diesels, once activated it works by telling you to change economically. I spoke to someone within Ford before about it and they said that Ford changed their mind about including a Shift Light in the later vehicles as this is not the image that there where looking for. I think they are now aiming at economical driving and to include a shift light, which is a red up arrow on just the ST and RS would be too expensive!

So unfortunately it seems luck of the draw at the moment, unless any tuners out there can come up with something!

too expensive its already fitted!

tbh tho the vehicles that i drive that do tell you when to change gear just end up annoying me.... they spend half there life saying change up then the rest of the time your labouring the engine!
