I will be removing it and fitting a intercooler when I get the car early November, a guide would be helpful.

 

Does the bumper need to be removed, intercooler could be replaced on the mk2 without.

 

I'm wondering the same as I want to get the fog light surrounds dipped

 

Would be awesome if the bumper could stay on, most new cars it's a bumper off job. I've also noticed Mountune taking the bumpers off and if not for the Intercooler what could it be for?

 

The Mountune procedure for Intercooler installation on the Mk3 ST is certainly bumper off.

 

As per title... has anyone had a go themselves at removing the front bumper? and was it a fairly straight forward DIY job that can be done at home?

Looking at this guide, it looks like it can be done at home if you take your time and follow it, just wonder what's other people experience at trying it...

Did mine the other day when fitting my new intercooler. That guide is pretty much spot on apart from the part where the bumper meets the wing I wiggled it out on both sides by pulling it away from the clip that's fitted to the wing

 

Nice one mate, that's good to know... so you'd say it's definitly a job that can be done at home then?

Does it all go back together easily too? or is it a bit fiddly?

 

It definetly went back on quicker than it coming off. When it first goes back on aswell the gap between wing to bumper is a tiny bit out. Had myself worried but when all the screws were back in and tightened up it was back like factory just to give you a heads up

Bumper needs removing, fitted a couple of MK3 intercooler a now.

 

Been looking at the Rs workshop manual and the stock intercooler can be removed the same way the mk2 was from the bottom with the undertray removed. Not sure about other brands of intercoolers regarding mounting points but the Mountune cooler uses the same mounting points as the stock cooler so can go back in the same way.

Airtec must mount from a different place some of the St coolers use the crash bar as a mounting point so its probably the same with the Rs if thats the case bumper off.

not sure with the Rs but some of the intercoolers on the St's did by drilling the crash bar. :yep:

is the warranty out the window if you drill holes in the bodywork or would the diff intercooler void it anyway?

 

No holes need to be drilled with fitting the airtec one
