Which BBK to go for?

Hi guys,

Apologies in advance if this question has been asked 100s of times on here already, but I would be extremely grateful for any recommendations on a BBK upgrade which won't brake (sorry) the bank but remains a decent all-rounder. There seems to be quite a lot of choice out there, and to be honest I have no idea what to go for.

I never track the car and have no intention to. It is my daily. I spent about an hour in it each day (to / from work). Colour is Ultimate Green with black gloss rims.

At the moment I am looking at the K-Sport ones (8 pistons + 356mm vented discs) with EBC YellowStuff pads vs. EBC Apollo-4 Caliper 355mm Discs. The obvious advantage this has over the K-Sport is that it also includes rear pads & lines.

Does anyone have any experience of either of these two BBKs? If not, should I be considering something else entirely?

Finally, colour-wise (as I'm a bit of sucker for looks I'll admit) I'm considering something with yellow calipers as I thought that would off-set well against the black alloys and UG of the bodywork, but again would be interested in anyone's thoughts on possible colour combos as well.

Many thanks, Richard

Ug with yellow calipers always looks good

I have the k sports with ferrodo ds2500 pads in mine and that combo works very well, even as a daily driver with no heat in the pads.

There are better options available but at the lower end of the price scale you can't get better imo.

A&k motorsport are doing a good deal on k sports at the moment too

Aidan, thanks for the quick reply. Really appreciate it especially given the current circumstances! Gives me something to read and research :) I believe A&K MotorSport offer a discount on certain products to FRSOC members, so may well give them a bell. Have you got any photos to share of your set up so I can see what they look like? Did you need to fit spacers? Cheers

If you go KSport you'll need to cost in spacers for standard wheels. Also I'd use red stuff pads, the yellows chewed up the discs on my KSport set up on my Fiesta ST.

I have the 4pot AP calliper Reyland kit on my RS, fits under standard wheels with no spacers and in my opinion is better than K Sport.
Keith, again, thanks for the prompt response. Will also look at the AP BBK if you feel they work well for you. Would you mind sharing a few pics of your set up so I can what they look like? Did you upgrade the rear brakes at all too, or leave them stock? Best wishes, Richard

I upgraded the rears using the Reyland bigger disc kit (uses the standard callipers.

I have spacers fitted because I choose to, not need to.

Calipers choice is huge but the main consistent is the pads being DS2500.
My friends running KSport on his UG and they look the part and pretty reasonably on the wallet.
It does the odd track day and they perform well.
Many thanks Adrian - that's good to know re the pads. I understand I would need to buy spacers if I went for the KSport ones. Which adds another 100 or so quid to the overall purchase price. Not the end of the world, but something to bear in mind I guess. Anyway, thanks for chipping in. Much obliged. Cheers

Buy yourself a genuine kit from a reputable supplier  I have a genuine AP six pot kit on my car not a kit that consists of AP callipers with knocked up discs, bells and brackets. As someone advised me when I bought my kit, with a genuine kit what ever make it would be you would have some sort of guarantee should things go wrong God forbid

Thanks Jimmy. Are you saying EBC or KSport are not quite up there with the others? Or just that you are more comfortable with the reputation of Reyland and their products? Cheers

EBC and KSport kits have good reviews and do the same as AP kits. Not fan of Reyland myself to be honest. I bought an AP BBK from someone and when they arrived it was supplied by Reyland, I returned it the next day and sourced myself a genuine AP kit from another supplier.

Considering Reyland make the discs and bells for Mountune and have a long and successful history of their own I'd say they aren't "knocked up".

Theres a market out there for all the manufacturer's, the more you pay the better the caliper, simples.

However even the cheaper kits still work well on a lot of the cars out there, depends what you want and how deep your pockets are.

Ksports have been ran on track with success and perform well
ap and alcon are market leaders and come at a premium.

PB brakes are on quite a few road cars too.

I cant find any feedback on the ebc bbk

How you drive, what's the intended use and what are your budget will all decide for you

Incidentally godspeed sell rotors and guarantees them against warping even on track days. I dont believe you always have to buy AP or Mountune rotors.

I got discs and bells from Reyland to fit AP 4 pots id bought separately. I also went with the Reyland 2 piece vented rear with different caliper. I found Reyland great to deal with and helpful. Once i had all the hardware the calipers sent to BCR for custom painting. I ditched the Ferodo DS2500 pads as i don't like the prospect for road use of getting heat into pad before they work. Always wondered how they perform when you have been running on the motorway for a time and have to slow quickly. Personal choice i guess on pads.

Looks great Steve, did you have to remove the dust shield to get the rears to fit and what size are they, 330mm?
