Was having a nose around on Pistonheads to get the mood on the latest news about the mk3 RS and these were some of the comments regarding the mk2 RS in a topic about the mk3.

"Looks much better than the MK2. That thing is hideous but this is in a similar vain to the MK1 which looks great to me.
I know some like the MK2 as it looked more shouty just like how some like the new Type R design. "

"The previous (2nd gen Focus RS) was arguably a rather embarrassing car to be seen in, if you were over 22.
I'd rather it looked a little more subtle - this is perhaps closer in style to the 1st generation, which was actually fairly discreet. "

"Fully agree with this, mk 2 was cartoonish at best but mostly you were embarrassed to be seen in one. This is much better. "

:sob: :sob:

With all the limelight going to the mk3 RS and now comments like this, I think our beloved mk2 RS needs a bit of a group hug :grouphug:

Let's have some positives about the mk2 RS please.

Typical comments really. New model is on its way so people feel a need to criticise the previous model. Fact is that the MK2 is still a head turner after 6 years and is one of the best looking cars on the road. I still get comments from strangers....had a nice gtr owner stop me at the petrol station at the weekend for a chat about it as he's never seen one up close.

Still love mine, will look into getting the mk3 but I'm in no rush and want to see reviews before I commit. The novelty of getting a brand new car isn't there for me anymore as I had the mk2 brand new in sept 2009 after a long wait but I understand how exciting it is to have a brand new RS on order !

Awwww lee I'm getting all emotional now ! The mk2 will always be an iconic RS, because of the looks for one thing, and it was a limited run as well , I'm not in for a MK 3 , but I like reading the threads on here and am excited for everyone that's ordered or about to choose we all know how exciting it is getting a new car, group hugs for the MK2 all round and the MK 1 as I'd love one of those to' !

-CS Recaros as standard

-Wide arches

-Waaaay better choice of colours

-Limited amount made

-Gloss black plastics as standard

Ford have ditched the small details that make the whole package and I would NEVER buy a mk3.

MK2 will be a rare classic come a decade!

Think of all those thousands of people that will think they've bought a rare car and pass another mk3 every few cars! So individual!

You know the first time you see a car if you have to have one or not , I have had that with 4 cars that I just had to have , the first was a series 1 rs turbo , then a renault 5 turbo 2 , then the escort cosworth and know my mk2 focus rs which I love , the mk3 rs is not for me , my mk2 rs is the best car I have owned

Either its Fords PR department trying to deflect the bad publicity away from the MK3 or the guy that wrote it just doesn't have any taste when it comes to the MK2. I am afraid I am over 22 by some margin and I love the MK2 and in over six years of ownership I have never heard a bad word said about it.

Well everywhere I go in my mk2 people stare and mention how nice the car is, imo the mk3 does not look special in any kind of way. I'd rather have the new type r over the mk3 any day :) buts that my option.

Yep, the RS Focus MK2 is a boy racer looking car, big and bold, isn't shy on it's road presence. That is why I love it, along with a host of other reasons. I care didly squat about what others think about it, or that a 50+ is driving it. It's my car, I like it, that is all that matters. If I fancy a Citroen 2VC, a VXR, ST, GTi, VW bug, then I shall drive one of those as well, . :nice:

I drive what I drive to give me that buzz, not to be one up one the Jone's next door.

I've seen about 10000 comments on how the MK3 'is a proper Rs now it is 4WD' and that the MK2 was 'rubbish because it was only FWD'

What makes me laugh is that this comes from people who have never drove the Mk2 👍🏻😂

cars are like women, its instant attraction, mark 3 aint doin it for me, i love the attention my :rs: brings, its like evo.s great till no 10, ive owned escort turbos, sierra cosworths, even a mazda rx8 its all about the look, sierra cosworths couldnt be given away back then, bad right ups, insurance etc,,,,,but i wish i,d kept one, park one up beside the new focus rs , i know what i,d have, and i aint saying nowt bad about it, just aint blowing me away like it should have, new civic type r looks nice though, and if youve gotta be under twenty to be seen in mine, what about it, if i had the money, i,d buy them all, and i twenty passed me buy, many years ago......

I accept that it's all a matter of taste.....................................................and what :f: brilliant, marvellous, wonderful, stupendous and perfectly refined taste we MK2 owners have :excl: I couldn't give a :f: what detractors say or think because these machines are highly desirable, much loved and cherished by us all. :grouphug: Long live the MK2.
