Hey all,

Owned my RS 10 years today :D

And it's this time of year it goes into Ford for its annual service - it has had a full Ford service history in my time with timing belt done by mountune in 2019 when getting the car forged.

I take it to a TrustFord centre just outside Belfast - the main reason I take it there as I am friends with one of the techs and I knew it was in good hands and he got me friends and family discount on the work carried out.

My friend has since left but I still take the car there as I've never had any issues with them servicing it...until now.

I rang up this week to book it in, was told it's a major service as spark plugs required and I also went for the aircon refresh as it make the car smell new again at £34.

So oil, filter, pollen filter, spark plugs and aircon refresh....£670

Asked if that was correct and was told yes, I then asked what it was without the spark plugs....£500

Surely this can't be right? I know inflation is high but surely a standard service isn't £500 these days for our cars?

Any replies/experiences from others appreciated.

give Andy at a&k a call for the spark plugs. I can’t recall the last price I paid, but it certainly wasn’t £170, bearing in mind though that some of that is the labour costs.

Andy can also get the correct original plugs for the RS, whereas all ford dealers now get routed by fords ECAT parts system to a generic plug , normally used in the ST.
I got hit with this issue in 2019 when I had the plugs changed by them in 2019 Dave and they fitted the ST225 ones 🙈

So I bought 2 sets of genuine plugs off Andy at the time and still have a new set sitting.
I was hoping to give them the set I had and them just fitting but at those prices I think I might pass or look elsewhere for servicing - trouble is there isn't a lot of reputable choice in NI and TrustFord seem to have the greater Belfast area wrapped up.

Thanks for the heads up though!

Well, my car has had the superceded ST plugs since whenever Ford changed to them & my car gets better mpg & runs just as before, so am happy with them. One thing to point out is my car is standard.
It was night and day between the ST and RS plugs on an MR420 mate, I knew there was something not right with the car as soon as I drove it after they were put in. It sounds like it's not an issue for a standard RS (as you would expect if Ford are happy to put them in).

Some people saying that £466 is a rip-off for a standard oil, filter and pollen filter service and some saying it's just main dealer prices. I'm not too hung up on the spark plug price as I'm not getting them to do it anyway as they'll put the ST plugs in so pointless anyway.

But eager to hear what other people have paid for a standard oil, filter and pollen filter service in the past few months as to me £466 is ludicrous.

Thanks again in advance for any other experiences/comments.
