Hello,

I have bought an Olympus ME51S microphone for the Go Pro.

I have seen and heard it on line, being used to record great exhaust sounds.

I have tried the same and am a bit disappointed.

I mounted it at the back of the car about 8 inches from one of the exhausts but whilst it has picked up the sound it is quite 'raspy' without the deep bass tone I hear in the cabin.

The pops and bangs sound like little twigs snapping.

Also lots of road noise and other traffic.

As I said, I have seen (heard) this mic used to record great exhaust sounds better than this.

So, does anyone have any tips or is this the best possible?

Here's a sample:

It's not great but yes could be better.

Isn't there a microphone muffler that comes with the kit to block out other noise?

Hello,

No there isn't so I cover it with foam from a kitchen sponge which is basically the same. It's just missing the bass from the exhaust!! May have wasted my money on this one!!

If it sounds better in the cabin then why dont you mount it there?

try in the boot etc. as your picking up a lot of road and wind noise. 8)
