ive just been looking around at the mk3 market as usual and i noticed several of these cars have had a lot of owners already, theres a few 17 plates with 4 owners and another with 5 previous owners, even if folk chop and change every year it still seems a lot to be buying a 17 plate where you will become the 6th owner
what happened to the days when someone would buy a car and keep it for at least 4 or 5 yrs

Agree, seems excessive.

Mine is a late 66 plate and I am the second owner, had the the car three years now 馃憤

Yes, strange days, Nick. I have my 67 plate one that I bought new, so 4 and a bit years for that, and as you know I have me Escort that I bought new in 1994 still. But in the days before that, I'd change them once a year....

When I was a lot younger I would change cars very often- not that I could have afforded anything like an RS when I was younger. But there鈥檚 plenty who can. The mk3 didn鈥檛 have the best reputation in the early days so that may not have helped, now I鈥檓 older I keep cars much longer.

I looked into a rs at trust Ford earlier this month it took 3 or 4 emails to get the number of owners out of them鈥. The car was a 17 plate and had 7 owners!

Talking to a dealer local that deal with rs,s he told me that he gets offered 3 or 4 rs鈥檚 a week. I think people see the prices going up and think they will sell and make a quick buck.

The rs I ended up buying was 拢1000 less than it was new, I鈥檝e seen some up for close to 拢40k

You can insure cars without the v5 being in your name, but I bet most said they were in their name. Would only become a issue if they needed to claim. I wouldn鈥檛 want to risk it.

i think the reasons are
pcp
not gelling with the car after the initial purchase
& a 6 month call from the salesman asking if they can buy the car back for more than they paid for it
& if your not an enthusiast its a no brainer
ive seen quiet a few in the dealerships i work in & there minty mint cars that just change hands alot

thats a good point,i agree with the none enthusiast part, i reckon the mk3 must have been bought by more "none ford" folk than any other rs ever,so they wouldnt be bothered about keeping them for long and soon move onto the next latest car
