Mine self level/adjust when you switch them on, what did they mean set too high

 

That's a weird one. Thought RS headlights self levelled...

Unless you had lowering springs or suspension upgrade??

 

Hope this doesn't happen to mine, in for its first MOT this week too!

 

Reading from the failure note:

Nearside Headlamp aim too high [1.8]
Offside Headlamp aim too high [1.8]

 

Lol. There self adjusting. Did u see them adjust them

 

They are self adjusting, however that is thrown to pot when the car is lowered, there is a manual adjustment on each headlight!
As for them charging you then I disapprove of that, an MOT tester is allowed within a test to adjust the headlights!!

 

Agree, very harsh to fail a 3 yr old car for this.

I agree they have a job to do but this is a bit of a jobsworth if you ask me.

 

They are self adjusting but if you have the car lowered on springs/coilovers, it doesn't auto-level out the adjustment in the ride height of the car if you know what I mean.

As a tester myself you are only allowed to adjust the head lights from inside the car. If it still fails then its the testers discression whether he adjusts them or not.

 

As a tester myself. If that's the only problem I tend to adjust them and say no more. But if they have a few parts of the criteria not met then it will fail. That tester must of been having a bad day or failed it when it shouldn't of.

 

For £12 I wasn't going to make a fuss and they didn't try and charge for a re-test. The car is bog standard, I doubt the headlights have been adjusted since new. I should send the bill to Ford

 

Would that suggest PDI not done correctly?!

 

Aye there self adjusting but they adjust as the ride height changes so the level stays even thats it but if there no set right tae begin with then.....the headlight still has a manual adjusting screw so its got to be set right first

 

I very much doubt that. I put money on the garage tryin to make a quick buck on saying it needs to be adjusted. Did he watch them adjust it or openly pay?

Down side of this is now that failure is now logged as history on his car now.

 

I would have to say assuming that the lights were incorrectly set at pdi then its fair game charging for adjustment. We all in business to make money. Sorry if this sounds harsh but 12 quid ain't the end of the world and doesn't sound like they are making up anything in my opinion.

Ps no you can't adjust it yourself on your drive without a beam setter

Sounds like a main dealer to me... They charge for EVERYTHING they can...!!!!

99% of independant garages don't charge for small adjustments etc

 

lets not tar all main dealers with the same brush please,

most of them on the other hand ill accept

 

Mine were faulty from new because they were always too high and I got flashed at night for a whole year!

They replaced both my headlights under warranty! Get 'em checked!

 

mine is lowered and the tester just tweeked them during the test for me.
