ESP light/button

Does the ESP light (orange skidding car) come on when ESP is actively doing something (i.e. stabilising the car), or only when there's a fault of some kind? Also does anything illuminate when you turn the ESP off?

It came on when I was going round the corner (in a "spirited" manner) onto a slip road on Friday night - I nearly s**t my pants! I pressed the ESP button and the light went off.. Didn't see the light again during the journey. Next morning I started the car and the ESP button had "ESP OFF" illuminated, so I pressed the button and that went away. I figured I'd managed to switch it off on Friday night and not realised I'd left it like that..

Anyway last night I started the car, and briefly noticed "ESP System off" on the dashboard message screen before it disappeared to be replaced by the mileometer. This time the ESP button itself wasn't illuminated..

So I'm confused now whether ESP is on, off or broken.. Any thoughts? I'm going to double check it when I get home tonight.

As with most things of this nature, they light up when there active, or constantly light up as a warning when switched off.

So usually if it's not lit, it's working. Would of thought you'd ne getting an error message if it wasn't working correctly.

Cool, sounds like I panicked when I saw the light on Friday and now I'm being mega paranoid.. Checked the dashboard "messages" section of the menu and there's nothing there - will check it out again later.. Thanks

As Matt said, it will Flash on the Dash broad when the ESP Kicks in and doing its job then disappears.

It will be illuminated constantly on the dash if you hold the button down and turn it off. Also should be a message on the Dash saying ESP disabled / or off also the ESP switch will be illuminated when it is off.

You have done well I was only saying the other day I haven't has the ESP come on the RS yet, whereas it was always kicking in on the ST.

The default setting for the ESP is "ON" and it should reset to this every time you start the car. It might be worth getting it checked out if it is saying "OFF" when you re-start the car.
