with legal spacing? The shorter plate is fine as long as you conform to the guidelines, letters to be 11mm from edge of plate, and with correct spacing, think this is also 11mm between first letter/s and numbers, then around 30mm from numbers to last letters.

Just found this that confirms

Character height 79mm
Character width (except the figure 1 or letter I) 50mm
Character stroke 14mm
Space between characters 11mm
Space between groups 33mm
Top, bottom and side margins (minimum) 11mm
Vertical space between groups 19mm

Got home tonight to find a letter from the local 'Safer Roads Partnership' they are not taking action, but warning me that if I continue displaying my number incorrectly I could face criminal proceedings.

A photo was attached, quite a nice colour one that represents the PB quite nicely, shame it's a bit blurred.

My plate (RS 10O RS) is illegal, I know that, but the letter I received is laughable. I have not misrepresented the letters/number, no stylised letters no fixing bolts etc etc, but I have changed the spacing, which is illegal, and I know that. Clearly it is either legal or not, but it annoys me that others, like some shown in this thread and I see others everyday are just so blatently illegal

The letter details the information leaflet that is linked to in earlier messages, but oddly refers to using a font similar to that shown on the letter, which is Times New Roman and not the correct font (Blunder Mr Pc) With the correct font the 0 (zero) and O (letter O) are the same.

The other clever thing is that on the very top of the attachment is a statement in bold, which reads:

If your vehicle was stolen whilst displaying this numberplate, the Police would use ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) systems to assist in its recovery. However, these systems are unable to read misrepresented number plates which would mean your vehicle could remain stolen longer or permanently. Doh

Blunder No. 2 , How come I got a letter so quickly then?

Can there be worse and lesser infringements or is it like being just slightjy pregnant?

Got it off my chest anyway.

Still enjoying the experience immensley

and this wont spoil my driving enjoyment even if they take the number away

The really annoying thing about thses plates is that the DVLA obviously make money from selling them, but then the authorities also make money from fining owners for displaying them.............win/ win for UK PLC

Got a parking fine the other day in Milton Keynes... ran back to car to see 2 parking attendants looking, ticket already on windowscreen... I said "fair cop" and turned round to go back indoors for my meeting.

On reflection, I realised they were looking at my tax disc... I'd just had my private plates fitted and not changed my tax disc over (though it had arrived)...
What do you think? How much?
