I would like to inform you of an incident on my Focus RS2, approximately 50,000 km, track use only, (425 hp, 565 Nm.) Which happened to me end of
853012
853013
853011
last year.
During a road test, suddenly, I heard a loud blasting noise from the gearbox, only in 3 th and 4 th.
I did 4 or 5 km to get back to the garage.
I changed the gearbox to another, second hand.
I have just dismantled the defective box. I found the main gear of the 3th 4th train with several broken teeth. Also, the LSD Qaiffe case had all the cap screws broken.
I think the teeth of the 3th 4th gear broke first, and the vibrations generated caused the LSD case screws to break.
Has anyone had this problem, or a similar problem?
Thank you for giving me your opinion.
Claude.

Thanks for the heads up on this issue. There’s always a risk whatever power your running but it’s one of those things that could happen at any time especially with a track use car. First I’ve heard of a gearbox going pop though.

I broke the teeth on my crown wheel two years ago on my track RS but it had been given a lot of abuse over the years with various amounts of power going through it, up to 650 at some points.
