This week We were looking back at some old EBC Brake photos and brochures from 'days gone by' which then got us talking about the first vehicles we all owned (some of these can be seen in our new 'Taking a Break' YouTube series Taking a Brake with the EBC Team | Episode 1: Group CEO, James Hallett - YouTube
So, the question We have is what was the first vehicle you owned and what was so special or, not so special about it?
Was there anything 'quirky' about it? Did it have a name? Did you do any special upgrades to it?
We would love to see photos of your first vehicle and will be sending some free EBC goodies (Cap, Mug, Pen, Lanyard, you know the sort of things!) to a randomly selected forum user.
Get searching for those old photos in those attics/lofts/garages/under parent's beds or just on your phone or computer if you are from the younger generation.
We can't wait to see what you all used to drive, and I am sure occasionally push!
My first car was a Renault GT Turbo Raider with the colour coded wheels. No real modifications to be done so kept it standard, which in those days was more than enough. I wish I still had it as it would have made me a small fortune......

What was your first car ?

Unfortunately this was long before the age of smart phones and camera phones etc but I’ll see if I have any old photos of it laying around

Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia was my first D264 SFJ, I still have the advert cut out from Autotrader.
Had it around 3 and a half years, with two head gaskets blown and my Mum and Dad paid for it every year to have some sort of welding done to pass its MOT.
I also regularly pushed it down the street to bump start it to get to work on a winters morning, good times though.

Great story and love the advert. Send us your address in a PM and We will send you a couple of EBC free gifts.

This was my first car, was a 1.6 xs that I won on eBay for the grand sum of £820! It cost me near on double to insure it. It was the fastest car I've ever driven, just like a hire car is 🤣
I remember changing the gearbox 3 times and countless drive shafts, love hate relationship that one

But it's unreliability (not helped by 18yr old Webby) led me to learn mechanics, drop out of what I was doing and start a mechanic apprenticeship. 20yrs on I'm still with the same company!
Highlight of my modified car history was my corolla...

Mk 1 Cortina GT, C reg in 1974, paid £50 for it, had 5.1/2 J wheels with, I was told spacers, wasn’t strictly true as when I took a wheel off the spacers were actually a bunch of washers on each stud, only had about 3 turns of the nut on the stud !!. Luckily we lived on a hill because that’s the only way to start it, friends were not impressed about having to get out and push start it, but hey, that’s what friends were for. Still they only had to do it for a couple of months until I wrapped it round some barriers on a one way system, I suppose I really should of passed my test/got a licence first. Sadly no pictures.

Bought it privately for £50; thought it was a bargain until I realised there was a massive hole in the petrol tank which explained why it was so flipping thirsty! Got rid of it pretty quickly and bought a dark blue Ford Anglia...registration number FFA 275D.
Around that time there was a bit of a craze for air horns so needless to say it had a huge pair under the bonnet!
Unfortunately though I have no pictures......perhaps just as well as my ugly mush would have been in them!

First car, and still one of those I can't forget was a standard Mini. Sliding windows, and the main beam activated through a push switch on the floor near the clutch pedal.
I had some times in that car. Stuck to the road like glue when I'd put a set of Dunlop Sport on!!!

The first car I owned and drove legally on the road after passing my test
was a Rover SDI 3500 V8. The old bill used them at the time but obviously they were more experienced and trained how to drive them
I promptly wrote it off after a few weeks of being on the road with it. As an inexperienced 18 year old it was a dot on the card. I had a set of 100+ cross spoke alloys on it and a Harry moss alarm system in order to protect the ice I had installed in it
Unfortunately this was long before the age of smart phones and camera phones etc but I’ll see if I have any old photos of it laying around
The brakes on the SDI's were a nightmare, they couldn't cope with Police use so the Met used minilites wheels on theirs to help with the braking Jimmy !!!
