I'm currently running the MR375 upgrade with the standard Mountune / pro alloy intercooler. I've heard that if you upgrade the intercooler for a bigger version it will increase the pops and bangs etc on the MK2 is this true and is it worth going for the Pro Alloy Ultimate intercooler or the Spec-R version???
At some point John I'm doing the Spec R although other priorities right now.
From what I've seen and people I've spoken to that know a thing or two, Spec R is the way forward.
Spec r is the only way forward. Tried and tested for big power. Put it this way. It turned a MR420 into a animal. MR420 is ok. But torque is smooth. With this fitted. Wow hold on
Ive got the Spec-R intercooler and the bigger hard pipe kit on mine, really makes MR375 come alive and great piece of kit.
I also have a KMS thunderstorm fitted, all works fine with MR375, but obviously not mountune approved
If its just more pops & bangs youre after though they can be achieved by making some simple exhaust changes and keeping the mountune intercooler, might save you a bit of cash.
I dont think just changing the intercooler without any exhaust changes will have any affect on the pops & bangs.
Best combo I found keeping the mountune intercooler for pops & bangs is mountune uk backbox with a non res section fitted, can be made better again by fitting a decat section, will loose a bit torque by fitting a decat but not much.
I have upgraded my MR375 to a Spec-r intercooler and hard pipe kit. It is not the cheapest upgrade but is a well made and a very comprehensive bit of equipment. Works well with MR375 and car feels much more responsive and smoother running, also found that mpg went up marginally. I am also running X4 and an LTG foam filter. I would definitely recommend the upgrade but the whole system needs to be balanced properly to get the best gains so it does need the whole kit.
My local garage struggled to get it all to fit as it is very tight so I would advise getting tips from Pete the owner of Spec-r, very knowledgeable as he makes the equipment.
the pro alloy ultimate has similar performance to the spec r with boost pipes. Depends how long you are willing to wait as Pete can be slow at times......more so for us international lot!
Took me ages for my coolant tank from spec r so when the time came to upgrade from my MT cooler......i went pro alloy ultimate.
@floz I've not really done any mods to the RS like that since I had it forged by Mountune, mainly been buying the odd bit of carbon fiber.
