What a fantastic brilliant looking monster. 355bhp, 4 wheel drive. This ones got the lot.

One hell of a serious bit of kit.

Seriously Eric. I went to see this car this morning at my local Merc dealer. It is effin fantastic. In a weird way it's very similar to the RS Focus. Huge huge presence. Similar rear spoiler and F1 type winglets on the front bumper. Big brakes front and rear with drilled discs front and rear. Red AMG callipers . 7 speed semi auto box, paddles etc. Every single extra on it. Leather and Alcantara seats, Just amazing.

All this for 42 grand. Amazing price imo.

Test drove a blue one fully loaded last weekend its a great car, not as fun as the RS as there's no drama with the 4wd but still fun in manual with the flappy paddles. Planning on getting a year old one next year can't swallow the 1st year depreciation on a 40k+ hatchback lol

Merc stealers are having a laugh at the moment with prices as, there's a 4-6month wait due to parts etc (most people who ordered in august have had to wait to January) so not many around they think they can get away with extortionate prices.
I specced one up online and it came out at just over £41,000 with all the good options, still alot of money

I had a very serious look at these when I sold the RS but little in the way of deals at the time and my chosen spec bit like Mike's Photo was 44k!! - too much for a 2 litre 4 pot however fancy imho
Tbh I was nervous of potential depreciation although scarcity may mitigate this
I will look again in 18months, could be tempting if its low 30's

355bhp is not earth shattering power in RS terms but with Race start, 4wd and Dual Clutch shifts its going to feel quicker than anything below 400

Not for me this car. I appreciate the great achievement they have made with getting 360hp from a 2L engine. It would be too similar for me, going from a white rs with black alloys red calipers to a white merc with black alloys, red calipers and a big black spoiler.

I don't like 4 door cars and for me spoils the looks. The interior is beautifull but with it being a merc its not going to be cheap to service or for parts.

I'm sure it's a great car to drive, but will it have the specialness of the RS and make you want to keep it for years.

I understand why people think they are styled and have a similar presence to the RS - I thought this the first time I saw one (I actually thought Merc even copied a few styling cues a bit to be honest
).
When I looked at the pictures in detail though the styling seemed to get away from me and seemed a bit overdone maybe - subjective of course.

The road tests haven't exactly set the world alight though either. As some have said as well, I bet they are a bit less fun than the RS to drive.

All pointless for me anyway; I would love a drive, but out of my league/price range at the moment.

Kind of makes me laugh when people say 'Won't be as much fun to drive as the RS cos its 4 wheel drive'. IMO that's way off the mark. No one ever ever says the Escort Cosworth isn't much fun to drive cos it's 4 wheel drive. Lol. Nope never read that.
As I've said thousands of times. The RS Focus is one of the best cars I've ever driven for the fun factor. However, the amount of times I've had to wait to be well on the move in the Focus before I would drive it with any passion against any other quick car is unbelievable.
If you haven't driven a quick car that's 4 wheel drive you need too. It's fantastic. Quick off the mark and quick out of corners.
This A45 is only 360 Bhp and a 2 litre 4 pot engine. Yet it achieves 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. How can that not be fun. No Amount of horse power will allow the Focus to achieve that. In fact loads of power in the RS with most likely hamper it off the line. The A45 with this power and 4 wheel drive allows you to accelerate much much harder out of the corners. This all translates it massive fun IMO

I have never driven a high powered 4wd and tbh can't afford one either.

Can't just be about grip though. The wife's coopers s works is the same as the Rs as in that its not a 0-60 specialist but still great fun on the right roads. I remember reading an autocar review featuring the rs3 (4wd) and golf ed35 and they preferred the golf so that says something about grip v fun
